Horse and Sleigh to a Fireside Cabin Dinner in Vauldalen, Røros

Storyteller

On the old mountain road between Norway and Sweden, Vauldalen has welcomed travellers since 1780. The Skott family still lives a true farm life here, set to the rhythm of the horses. On winter evenings you join them in the stable as the horses are harnessed. Wrapped in thick fur, looking every inch a rugged Viking, you glide by sledge across the snow to Volldalskoja, a timber cabin only horses can reach. In summer, a carriage takes the same trail. Dinner is cooked over an open fire from local produce, while a troubadour plays folk music. Few places feel this much like a time machine, back to an age when horses were the only way to travel.
